Dimensional Control is a method of verification, validation and calibration of the geometric characteristics of objects, structures or equipment, and can be executed with or without physical contact. Its main purpose is inspecting the different phases of the construction process, to ensure proper assembly, smooth operation, replacement of equipment parts and components, identification of geometric errors and surface analysis.
It is a specific application of Metrology and the basic concepts of metrological reliability to the elements involved in the construction of objects, equipment and structures. Its main fields of application are the automotive, naval, aeronautical, oil and gas, cellulose, mining and steel industries, among many others.
When a given piece of equipment needs to be manufactured in an almost unique way, requiring specific Dimensional Control procedures, this will be the best suited methodology for effective production control.
